York City have confirmed the capture of Northern Ireland goalkeeper Michael Ingham.

The 28-year-old, who played 17 times for the Minstermen when on loan from Sunderland in 2003, is manager Colin Walker's second signing of the week after landing defender-cum-midfielder Mark Greaves.

Am I dreaming? This is the best news I've heard for months. I hope the fans who criticised Colin Walker for not having the right contacts or knowing which players to buy will be eating their words. Most people agreed that City needed a good, commanding keeper and a strong experienced centre back and now we've got them. Roll on next season.

I wonder if he's learnt how to kick yet? TBH, I'm not so bothered- as long as he knows how to deal with a cross or a corner, then I'll be happy

He seems to have been signed from memory as it doesn't look as if he has been setting the footballing world alight over the last four or so years.

Ingham was one of the best keepers we've had at city in modern times.big, strong, vocal and assertive. the squad is already better than it was at the atart of last season,with more yet to come. we've got quality all over the park now, albeit we need a right winger (id like to see sam duncum return and given a chance). keep 'em comin col

Yorkieboy, he was playing first-team football for Wrexham until he picked up an injury two seasons ago, then they foolishly decided to let him go. He sat on the bench last year at Hereford, a team that won promotion to League One. Hardly four or so years in the wilderness is it?

Ingham should prove a reliable number one and Greaves must play centre half alongside McGurk, York need to be more physical if they want to be contenders.

Steady on . He's made a couple of signings that are quite good . Let's see who else he brings in

In reply to yorkieboy hongkong this is definatly NOT a signing from memory he played for Northern Ireland last year its a real coup that York have got him as there was football league clubs interested i would put this signing on a par with Alan Fettis i actually rate Ingham higher then Fettis as he has more physical presence in goal 6,4.Im fed up with the manager and inparticular the board being given a load of sh*** by mindless morons calling themselves fans .

How can he have been signed "from memory"?
Neither Colin Walker, nor Eric Winstanley were here in 2003.

Are you suggesting Jeff Miller has been promoted to Head Scout? He's the only staff link to then.

Ingham has been signed because he is a good keeper, available on a free, and with a good reputation.

Not quite sure he's as good as fettis was (yet...) but i couldn't agree more about the grief people at the club get. Makes you wonder when we're all supposed to be on the same side doesn't it.

Ingham, on paper, is a good signing at this level and carries with him the attributes we need in a 'keeper.

Greaves comes with a very good pedigree and if he can stay injury-free looks like he could be a good commanding presence at the back or in the middle of the park.

Seems like two good signings. And at least CW seems to know what he wants and who he wants, rather than last summer's policy by BM of giving trials to too many players over the summer - resulting in an over large squad of average players who didn't have time to settle into the club. 'Be' in Scotland is right - the board and CW deserve no stick from fans. If it wasn't for the board and especially the McG's, there wouldn't be a York City.

2 excellant signings, well done col and the board, now we have a quality, commanding keeper and commamding defender/midfield player. They both could have waited longer to see if they got a better offer off another club but have signed up early so obviously they were impressed by col and want to play for york, hopefully others will. Defensively we should be ok now because we will have a properly fit Darren Kelly as well after he has had a proper rest and then pre-season training, something he didnt get last year, im sure we will see a much improved player this season and with Beadle it gives us 5 centre halfs to choose from. There has not been a mention of our new captain, has anyone idea who it will or should be?

Captain will probably be McGurk. Unless CW brings in a new midfield general that gets is.

I think Kelly is the best choice.

Cheers romfordpele.I didn't know what he had been doing the last few years.But I must add warming the bench can be done by anyone,even myself at my age.

In response to remarks from other readers he has only been playing reserve football lately.

I am not falling out over what I too regard as a better quality of player than our previous keeper....Like others on here it is only from what I remember of him though.

I just want to add that we seem to desperatly need a leader in midfield(though that might be Greaves)in which case another defender and the rest of the coin spent on a forward.

We are all well aware that we need to hit the ground running this next term.With possibly a player brought in after the influx of money from the home friendlies.

Good Luck to CW and the team.

It may not seem like it to some on here,but I am feeling a little happier now.

Ingham has dropped down below his level he has the quality to play league 1 or 2 football, this is a massive signing!
