STAFF at one of York’s biggest employers have been hit by news of job cuts.
CPP has announced it may make 12 people redundant in a bid to “remove duplication” as part of an efficiency review.
Bosses of the company, whose York base is in Holgate Park, said the move was “regrettable” but would “help safeguard other jobs in York during this difficult period”.
Stephen Kennedy, CPP managing director Northern Europe, told The Press: “On Thursday, CPP announced that it was reorganising its business, with the consequence that up to 12 employees may be made redundant.
“CPP has looked to remove duplication as part of the ongoing reviews of efficiency that any successful business undertakes.”
He said the areas affected were consumer sales, human resources and business intelligence along with the restructure of two existing business units into a single operation.
“The redundancies, although very unfortunate for those affected, account for less than one percent of the CPP UK workforce and will result in a more efficient business with less duplication of effort,” added Mr Kennedy.
“We are currently consulting with those individuals affected and will be providing ongoing support and outplacement services to any individuals who are ultimately made redundant.
“The UK business is continuing to deliver double-digit growth and is clearly bucking the current trend, but CPP is not immune to external market conditions. Although very regrettable, CPP believes the restructure of the business is a sensible decision that will help safeguard other jobs in York during this difficult period.”
News of the redundancies comes only weeks after insurance giant Norwich Union announced that 500 jobs were to go in York. The company said that work in two sections at its Monks Cross offices was to be outsourced.
It was moving some of its operations to Scotland and to Basildon, in Essex.
The company said it would seek to minimise any impact.
