Aroma Coffee Shop, Main Street, Haxby

10:24am Saturday 8th November 2008

WE ARE grateful to the many readers who alerted us to this relatively new venue. Run most professionally by volunteers associated with Haxby and Wiggington Methodist church, there is no overt religious connection.

Graeme Robertson visits Café Explore, Front Street, Acomb

10:50am Saturday 25th October 2008

EATING and drinking in a public library used to be forbidden. Now all that has changed. In fact, in Acomb library it is positively encouraged.

Le Langhe, Stonebow, York

8:40am Saturday 18th October 2008

If you enjoy Italian food (not the pasta and pizzas associated with most Italian restaurants), this could be the place for you.

Mill Farm Nursery & Tea Garden, South Milford

6:49am Saturday 11th October 2008

Don’t believe all you read in the papers. Was it the phraseology or our interpretation?

Wilton’s Tea and Coffee Lounge, Market Street, Pocklington.

9:43am Saturday 4th October 2008

WE HAD completed a pleasant, if at times strenuous, walk round Millington. None of the country cafés and pubs were open mid-week, so the convenient town of Pocklington was our target.

Graeme Robertson visits Thomas’s, Acomb, York

11:01am Saturday 27th September 2008

THOMAS’S of Helmsley is a well respected bakery, with many branches in York and district. Not all have an adjacent café, but the Acomb branch is an exception.

Pig & Pastry, Bishopthorpe Road, York

9:00am Saturday 20th September 2008

WE never thought some good might come out of the closure of a post office. But it has in Bishopthorpe Road, where the premises are now occupied by a vibrant café.

Mallard Restaurant, York Hospital

10:46am Saturday 13th September 2008

The venue is self service, providing a variety of hot and cold meals, snacks and drinks.

The Tea Lounge, Westgate, Tadcaster

11:23am Saturday 6th September 2008

HAD it not been for the Potters, we may never have spotted this refreshment spot.

Artfulness, in Goodramgate, York

Amie Antoniak, owner of Artfulness gallery and café, with her A-board

10:45am Saturday 30th August 2008

THE controversy about A-boards prompted our visit to this venue. It is only just within Monkbar, so we can understand why guidance is essential.

Café 71, York Road, Acomb

12:39pm Saturday 23rd August 2008

WHEN there is a shared entrance, there sometimes appears to be a difficulty about who is responsible for keeping it clean.

Langlands Café Bar, Shiptonthorpe

11:20am Saturday 16th August 2008

ON our return from Beverley, where we had fulfilled one of our regular charity commitments, we called in at this garden centre.

Russells Tearoom, The Old Forge, Thornton-le-Dale

10:42am Saturday 9th August 2008

READERS are very kind and regularly provide us with suggestions of cafés and snack spots we should try. Some of them we have already surveyed, others are new to us.

In this week’s Quick Eats, Graeme Robertson visits Peter Ward’s tea rooms at Pocklington.

Castle Tearooms, Castlegate, York

10:50am Saturday 26th July 2008

DIFFICULT to spot from a distance, this café is one of the first such venues visitors pass on their way from the Castle car park.
