A PRIMARY school has become the first in York to be given a new type of award for learning.
Poppleton Road Community Primary School has received the Investors In Pupils award, which was presented to the school by Paul Murphy, assistant director of education with City of York Council.
The award is given for excellence in five key areas of learning; learning, behaviour, attendance, classroom management and how new pupils are settled into the school.
Head teacher Sue Eland said: “We have been working hard towards this award for a long time and we are delighted that this is an award especially for our children at Poppleton Road.”
Before they received the award, children, teachers, parents and governors were interviewed about school life, the opportunities the school provides and how satisfied with school life the children were.
Pupils described the school as one where they felt happy, were listened to, were included and all worked together.
