York court and crime round-up
Defendants who are regularly before the courts can get very blase about being sentenced.
Every time a defendant is given a community order, a suspended sentence or a restraining order, they are warned about the consequences of not obeying. Each breach can put the defendant in jail.
Sean Beard was so blase, he walked out halfway through his warning saying he had to get his methadone prescription. He should have listened. He's now doing 34 weeks in jail.
Craig Matthews didn't have any convictions before he made a nuisance of himself at his previous place of work, but he was another one who didn't understand the words "Obey my order" when he received a restraining order banning him from going back. So guess what he did.
Just two court stories from this week.
