Yorkshire spinner Adil Rashid has revealed that thoughts of playing for England have sometimes entered his head when bowling for Yorkshire.

The 20-year-old leg-spinner has been the next cab off the international rank for a couple of seasons now, with England Academy and Lions duty a regular fixture on his calendar.

And although Rashid, pictured, wants to forget about international honours for the time being, concentrating his full efforts on the White Rose county, he knows that a bagful of wickets could see him make the step up soon.

England tour India in the winter, and will need to take two spinners to the sub-continent. It is not beyond the realms of possibility for Rashid to get the nod.

“I’m only 20, so I’ve got plenty of time”, he said.

“I try to ignore the England speculation, but sometimes it’s in my head when I’m bowling.

“The main thing is just to concentrate on Yorkshire. It’s easy at the minute though – and I’m not really thinking about England.”

The Tykes travel to Trent Bridge to face Nottinghamshire today on the back of two consecutive County Championship defeats.

Meanwhile, Yorkshire’s second XI are in Championship action against Warwickshire at Stamford Bridge today.

Play in the four-day fixture at Low Catton Road starts at 11am.

Yorkshire (at Nottinghamshire): from Chris Taylor, Adam Lyth, Anthony McGrath (capt), Jacques Rudolph, Andrew Gale, Gerard Brophy (w/k), Adil Rashid, Tim Bresnan, Rana Naved, Matthew Hoggard, Deon Kruis, David Wainwright.
